Great news for Sheerwater and Woking

A new access road for Sheerwater has been given the go ahead and will give both existing businesses and residents improved access to the Sheerwater area which, in turn, has immediately been the key to retaining 130 existing jobs and creating the opportunity for over 300 new jobs for the area.

The Council will start work on the new road in January 2013 and it is due open to road users by October 2013. The new road is an extension of Albert Drive and will mean that all traffic, including heavy goods vehicles, will have better access to Sheerwater's business parks.

But that's only part of the good news for Sheerwater. The Wandsworth Group Limited, a long established existing Sheerwater occupier, is in the process of moving to new premises, securing existing jobs and triggering the redevelopment of their existing premises.

Rutland (Woking) Limited, a joint venture between Woking Borough Council, through its subsidiary, Thameswey Developments Limited, and The Rutland Group is proposing to develop a new 40,000 sq ft superstore for Asda, subject to planning, and works should start in spring 2013 with completion to be Christmas 2013.

The Council's Economic Development Strategy recognised that it was essential to improve access to Sheerwater and to ‘kick start' the regeneration of part of Sheerwater and the retention of The Wandsworth Group and the development, subject to planning, of the Asda store secures 130 existing jobs and will create a further 300 jobs for the local area, which is great news for everyone.
